Description of Seminary Years/Preparation
A person may be accepted (pending the full
application process) as a Seminarian for the Diocese of Phoenix, beginning after
graduation from High School. If a young man entering does not have a college
undergraduate degree yet, then they will attend a college level seminary. If a new
Seminarian already has their undergraduate degree, then they begin major seminary at any
one of the seminaries that the diocese uses (Mt. Angel, St. Meinrad, Mundelein,
Pontifical College Josephinum, St. John Vianney). The
Seminarian then begins with one or two years of philosophy (Pre-Theology) before going through
four years of Theology. So someone with an undergrad degree will have five
or six years at
the seminary, whereas someone entering in college will have however many years left of
college, plus four years of Theology (college students take care of their philosophy
credits during their undergrad studies and do not do a 'Pre-Theology' year).
Estimated dates of Ordination:
John Muir - June 2007
Matt Lowry - June 2008
Will Schmid - June 2009
Robert Bolding - June 2009
Tom Parks - June 2010
John Parks - June 2010
Matt Henry - June 2010
