The
Resurrection Window
"They will deliver Him up to the Gentiles to be mocked, scourged and crucified; and
on the third day He will rise again." (Mt 20:17-19) The Resurrection of Jesus, His
return to life after death, is the great testimony to His Divinity. Not only the early
Christians, but millions of people have staked their belief on this testimony. The Gospels
go into great detail to show that Jesus really died and came back to life again.
Christ's Resurrection transformed His followers, once they realized its meaning. They had
been demoralized by His death and when He did appear, they thought He was a ghost at
first. The Apostle Thomas would not believe until he could examine the wounds in Christ's
body; then he exclaimed, "My Lord and My God." (Jn 20:24-29)
Belief in Christ's Resurrection was and is the impetus behind the spread of Christianity.
The early Christians never spoke of Christ as a dead hero but as one living in their
midst. This is and has always been a key teaching of the Church. St. Paul summed it up,
"If Christ has not risen, your faith is in vain." (1 Cor 15:17)
Jesus shares the victory of His Resurrection with us, for we, too, have the power to rise
and be glorified forever: "I am the Resurrection and the Life; he who believes in Me,
even if he die, shall live, and whoever lives and believes in Me, shall never die."
(Jn 11:25-26)
The Phoenix Bird and the Butterfly shown in the window are ancient symbols of the
