Guy's
Day Out
6/9/01
This day and night contained everything guys love - sports, food, hanging out,
music, watching sports, video games, sleeping, and oh yeah, more sports. The day
began at Tempe Town Lake tossing some frisbies and baseballs around, which eventually
turned into an all out baseball game. Joe B proved that a tennis ball could indeed
fly over 250 feet by hitting a 3-run shot. Next we munched down on some hamburgers,
dogs, and bratwursts. Ryan led a bible study on trials and temptations, and purity
and holiness. Then, Mr. Ray gave us a great talk about "Doing the Dew's of
Life" and gave out Mountain Dews - Dew Dream, Dew God, Dew Family, Dew Forgive, Dew
Love, and Dew God's will. We then all took a few hour break to go home to our
families and gear up for the night. We met up again at 7pm and began an intense
2-hour basketball game. Other guys watched the hockey game, played guitar, pool, and
ping pong. Next, we went over to the church and were able to participate in a Mass
said by Fr. Don Kline. After Mass we prayed over Robert - our boy who's heading to
the Seminary. From there, we got a wiffle ball game going in the gym.
The game grew controversial as the calls became closer and closer, but everyone still had
a ton of fun. By that time we were exhausted and claimed couches to get some
sleep. We went to bed around 2:30, only to wake up 6 hours later to be told we were
about to be greeted by a whole crew of young children for Children's Liturgy. We
had ten minutes, but only needed nine to clear out of the room - mom would have been
proud.
Thanks to Joe Sotelo for planning this day,
and Mama Sotelo for her support! Also, thanks to Fr. Don Kline and Seminarians
Clint and Dan for hanging out and being present to the guys!
