Travel Log

Today we started the day once again with Catechesis and Mass with other World Youth Day pilgrims at a small Catholic church called SS. Salvador Do Mundo.  The Archbishop of Ghana, Africa presided - Bishop Turkson.   After that we went to the Exhibition Place where we spent the rest of our day and attended the Opening Ceremony for World Youth Day.  We had the opportunity to see Pope John Paul II up close as he proceeded through the 300,000 plus pilgrims.  It was a very memorable day - one we will not forget.

Diary from Megan

Hello Everyone!!!(mom, dad, allie, sean, jo, ben, bre, KATHLEEN) It is absolutely amazing here. There are so many different cultures all in one place, and we're all connected through our faith. I think the most friendly out of all the people are the Italians-they are so cool!! So, today we got up really early….well not really that early it just seems like it…and we had the best breakfast it was so good…but at the same time not at all..and went to catechesis and mass. An archbishop from Ghana was the presider…he was really good. Then we went and waited for the Pope to come….oh my gosh…it was amazing…we got there three hours early and we were right up against the gate. So when the Pope went through in his mobile I was about FIVE FEET away from him! It was amazing….Oh and Bianca and I met so many people from different countries…Australia, Switzerland, Italy, and German!!! We actually talked to a guy from Germany on the way home last night for like 15 min….it was awesome! Well I miss you all…hope all is well! Love, Megan

Diary from Bianca

Today is the 25th of July. It has been a very moving day for me. My most treasured part of the day was seeing the Pope. He was literally about 4 feet away from us. He looked so kind and holy and just looking at his beautiful face filled me with complete hope and joy. What a unique and incredible experience! It was amazing to see so many people from over 100 countries all shouting and smiling and crying as he slowly made his way down the road in his "Pope-mobile." It is a wonderful feeling to know that there are such a large number of people who share my same beliefs and my commitment to faith. I feel truly privileged to have been able to partake in this life-changing event. Love, Bianca
