Pilgrimage log
The pilgrims arrived at Terminal 3 of Sky Harbor Airport starting at
7:20am and finished arriving at 8:15am (don't worry, no one was keeping an
eye on their watch, Fr. Jim). Time went quickly after checking in as people
played cards, ate breakfast/early lunch, and chatted with a group traveling
to World Youth Day from Flagstaff (Newman Center/Youth group) who traveled
with us on the same plane. After getting out of Sky Harbor smoothly (we all
had a great view of the morning rain storm through the windows), we were
delayed an hour in Cincinnati, which was good since we only had 50 minutes
scheduled on the tickets. The flight across the ocean felt like a "short" 9
hours, all things considered. We were entertained with the movies "Fever
Pitch" and "Monster-In-Law," card games, pillow fights, and meeting more
people from other groups. The sunrise in the airplane was breathtaking. As a
sidenote, the author has noted no less than 87 IPods around him in less than
12 hours on this pilgrimage. The Holy Spirit and the smooth sounds of
ColdPlay are keeping us all company...
Diary entry from Tommy
Well, it's 8a.m. in Rome, and we are flying over the Atlantic Ocean, and
I just witnessed a majestic sunrise that, in my mind, is an absolutely
fitting way to kick off our pilgrimage.
This is my first flight longer than an hour, and I am neither wary of nor
undaunted by the experience of the airports and planes. We had an hour delay
getting out of Cincinnati, but other than that we have had smooth sailing-
except of course a scare at Sky Harbor when I accidentally pocketed Mike's
ticket as well as my own. I have had a blast so far, but I know
that this will be just a blip on the radar compared to the fun we will have
once we touchdown in Rome! God Bless- keep us in prayers!
