August 22, 2005, Day 15

Pilgrimage log

This morning we slept in a little bit and ate our last “best breakfast ever” in Hagen. We then spent a couple hours wandering around the shopping district of Hagen. Some of the favorite things were ice cream, Gnomes, and we finally gave in and ate McDonald’s. We then rode in the bus for around four or so hours to Frankfurt in Germany, to be close to our airport tomorrow. The saddest part of the day was saying good-bye to Roberto, our Italian bus driver. For as much grief as he gave us at times, or as much as he pretended to not know English, we had grown to love him. We had to relax at the hotel before dinner, which most of us did by taking a nap and watching TV (usually one English channel). After dinner, we decided to go over to a sports facility across the street. We played soccer for an hour in an indoor soccer field. It was a lot of fun, aside from Rosie’s scare with her foot. We had worried that it might be broken, but after a brief, efficient trip to the hospital (thank you Germans), we learned that luckily nothing was broken. We finished the night by joining for a rosary and rap session to cap off the trip by sharing how we had found Christ on our pilgrimage.
