August 15, 2005, Day 8
Pilgrimage log
Today we got up a little earlier to get a good start on
our trip to Germany. We ate some more rolls, said “Ciao” to Milan, and hit
the road. We hit Switzerland after two hours and stopped to use the bathroom
and buy some great chocolate. We then took in more unbelievable Switzerland
scenery before stopping for lunch at another nice truck stop. Switzerland is
very independent (and not “wimpy” but instead extremely fortified and rich)
and has its own currency, which is doing extremely well, so lunch was pretty
pricey (around $15-20 for a small meal). It began to rain as we left
Switzerland to briefly go through France, before hitting Germany and the
Audubon. Our bus driver Roberto seems bold enough to take advantage of the
Audubon, but lucky for us (depending on your perspective), with the rain and
a steady flow of traffic we kept it to a cool 103…kilometers per hour that
is (65 mph). We arrived in Heidelberg in time to relax and enjoy the cool
weather before a great German dinner (sausage, pasta salad, great soup,
potatoes, and pear cake). We then prayed a rosary celebrating the Assumption
and had a rap session over our pilgrimage so far. Tomorrow we continue onto
Cologne for the Opening Ceremonies of World Youth Day!
Diary entry from Margy
Buon journo! Today we started in Italy, traveled thru beautiful
Switzerland, skimmed France and entered Germany. That’s four countries in
one day. As the token mom on this trip, parents- know that your kids are
energetic, involved, prayerful, and so much fun. Whatever sacrifice you made
to have them here is worth it. We spent lots of hours on the bus today, lots
of sharing.
To my grand kids, Nate and Hayden- hope you go to a WYD when the time comes.
I miss you!
Christina, Matt, Laura, Tom and John – truly wish you were here. I am
grateful you are in my life. Your sister, Cindy, is in her element… I am so
glad we get to share WYD. Feed the dogs.
I am praying for you. We start WYD activities tomorrow so life will be
hectic. I am taking pictures! See you soon.
Bless you all,
Margy
