Diary entry from Megan Madigan

Today we got up and had croissants and coffee, everything was sooooo good!  After breakfest we took the bus to Lisieux.  When we arrived we went to our hotel and rested for awhile.  We got to go see the convent that St. Thersea went.   It was very cool to see everything .  After we stoped at the Bisilica.   It was so beautiful.  Father Jim later said mass there.  Later we went to the house that St. Thersea lived in as a little girl, it was so spirtiual to be there.   It felt awesome, to know that she had sat there, or she slept in that bed.   Then we went to a cathedral that they used to use during the war. Father Jim was telling Stacy, Becky, and me about how when the war was going they would go and break the heads off statues.  It was coolbecause we saw some that had been repaired and one that was never fixed.  At diner time we ate with St. Francis at our hotel.  The food was really good, esp. the soup we had it was french union, ummmmm. Well I'm really tired, so i got to go to sleep. Auvior! ~ Megan Madigan~

Travel log

Let's keep it simple.  We woke up around 7:30, ate breakfast, and left hotel by 9am.  Checked in to new hotel, Hotel Regina.  Then we went to Convent where St. Theresa went.  Something was going on inside, so we just poke our heads in for 10 minutes (I believe we're going back later). The body of St. Theresa was buried below a wax representation of her body (see pictures below).  Then we headed to the Basillica that was built in the 20th century (biggest one built this century). In this chapel, a relic of St. Theresa is on display - a bone from her right arm.  Next we traveled to the Cathedral.  The place was under heavy construction and badly needed it.  One reason the site is famous is because the bishop that was in charge and had St. Joan of Arc's head cut-off, is buried near the altar.  Next we went back to the Basillica and heard Mass with St. Francis and St. Peter the Apostle (who is also with us).  Mass was below the Basillica in the Crypte.  It was a long, beautiful church that echoed a lot.  After Mass everyone went back to our hotel where we ate dinner.  After dinner people walked around town a little bit.  They are having their weekly (one day a week) market and so a band was playing and there were booths selling fresh food.   Tomorrow we begin our retreat.
