Diary of Cydney Landels
Today we woke up, ate some bread and croissants for breakfast, and
left for the Basilica around 9:00 am. When we arrived we each went off in our own
directions and had some quiet time to ourselves. We each took this time to meditate
and reflect on what we wished to accomplish and learn from this trip. I found the
"quiet time" to be very useful and calming, for I was able to collect my
thoughts and review my past experiences. After an hour had passed, we all met inside
and prayed the rosary together along with St. Francis' parish. Then we came back to
the hotel, had some lunch, and headed out for a mandatory cheese factory outing.
There we learned and saw how they make their cheeses and even got to sample some.
It was all quite interesting! At 6:00 pm we went to the Carmelite Convent and
had mass. Then it was back home to the hotel for dinner and bedtime, which I am
going to do even as we speak...Auvoir!

After breakfast we headed to the Basillica to have our retreat.
First we formed little groups and got to meet people from St. Francis and St. Peter.
Then we sang some songs and heard Fr. Art Ware (from St. Francis) speak. Then we
had some quiet time to spend around the Basillica. Also at the Basillica was a group
of Jubilee pilgrims from California. About noon we broke for lunch and then met up
again about 2pm to go to the cheese factory. The factory was kind of small, but
supplies cheese to Lisieux and the surrounding Normandy area. Just a note, the
Normandy area is a big area of France, not just a city. This are is know for its
architecture, beautiful countryside, and cheese, among other things. After the
factory we had another break until we celebrated Mass at the Carmel convent. After
Mass we ate dinner back at the hotel, and then walked around town for a little bit before
going to bed.
